| Minimalistic and conceptual art

With a light and Nordic feeling, Johanna Nyborg creates artistic pieces with a minimalistic and graphic expression.

Exploring materials, techniques and tactility every piece has its own unique lines or visual dynamic meticulously made

to create a holistic, clean expression entering the sphere of conceptual art.

Johanna Nyborg desires to create art, that leaves the audience in a state of reflection and connection with themselves.

Through her graphic pieces, she conveys a calm yet powerful space enabling the viewer to dive into own thoughts and mind.

At the heart of every single piece, the artists goal is to speak to both body and mind. Through the texture and depth in the pieces,

our sense of touch becomes evident combined with the nonfigurative visuals. Our mind on the one hand becomes second

priority and on the other hand get to work in a completely different way than it does most of the time.

| Exploring a new material

Johanna Nyborg uses an alternative core material for her art pieces, where she replaces the canvas with a hard, yet fragile material normally used in the building industry. Discovering fibre plaster and the materials unique features was for her an inspiration in itself, which drew her to experiment and explore what properties the textual surface and hard core had to offer to her aesthetic and visual practice. Painting on canvas and drawing on paper during her childhood and young adult years, she was drawn to this white but different type of surface.

Fibre plaster is a raw and textual material combining normal plaster with 20 percent paper fibres to strength the durability and density. Fibre plaster has proven to be a useful product in our homes that helps ensure the quality of the air and the interior climate by encapsulating and absorbing toxic particles from the air. Johanna Nyborg uses this material as the basis in her works of art because of its tactile and physical qualities, which make it possible to create both deep and fine intrinsic lines and bring a distinctive expression through the way paint and stain reacts towards the surface. Certain pieces are made of fibre plaster, that are produced of 100 percent recycled materials.

Using paint and stain, the artist joins together a soft white surface with contrasts that beautifully blend in with the material in a subtle way, and letting the material decide how the liquid absorbs.

|  About the artist

Johanna Nyborg (1989) is a Danish artist creating minimalistic and graphic works of art using fibre plaster and stain. Exploring materials, techniques and tactility every piece has its own uniqueness or visual dynamics meticulously made to create a holistic, clean expression entering the sphere of conceptual art.

With a background in art history, design culture and work within the interior and furniture field for several years, the artist interest in art and visual expression became a natural part of who she is and how she thinks. Her adopted means of expression are sculptures and wall pieces united by a common denominator: a search for serenity and inner reflection. Following an intuitive method of work, her meditative pieces are a result of her own intuition being set free letting her hands work and mind wander off.

“I’ve always been drawn to art, especially paintings and sculptures but also other artforms like poetry and music. To me, art is a strong connection with something that lies deep within us – which is also why it touches us.

What I like about conceptual or abstract art is how it makes me think yet at the same time prevents my brain from completely interpreting the piece but also experience it with my body. It’s a contradiction which I find so inspiring. I hope to create not only visually and aesthetically pleasing pieces, but also an expression your body and mind will never finish figuring out.”
